Job Description



The Medical Assistant/Lab will function as a float, and provide half day support to the physician practices, and half day support assisting in the Lab. The Medical Assistant will provide direct front and/or back office patient care as directed by a Physician, LVN, RN, or other licensed health care provider.   Medical Assistants greet and escort patients to exam rooms, prepare patients for examinations, assist with procedures, collect specimens and assist with the overall delivery of patient care in their respective department.  The phlebotomy duties and responsibilities range from basic filing, reception, data entry, and like activities to those requiring progressively more advanced knowledge of specialized processes such as infant, pediatric and adult phlebotomy, specimen processing, and the ability to handle more detailed transactions and the successful resolution of various types of work-related problems.              






High School Diploma or equivalent, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program. No experience is required. California State guidelines required a Medical Assistant must be at least 18 years of age. Current CPR certification.  State or Federal CMA certification is required from one of the following agencies: 1) California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCBMA), 2) American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), 3) American Medical Technologists (AMT), 4) National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or in the State of California, Multiskilled Medical Certification Institute (MMCI), 5) National Healthcare Association (NHA)-also known as Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA), and 6) National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP).  Non-Certified candidates will be considered, but must obtain certification within 120 days of hire date. EKG certification, 6 months previous phlebotomy experience preferred. In some locations or as applicable to job assignment, applicant must be proficiently skilled in the application and use of Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, clinical applications programs, and the Internet. Typing/word processing skill of 25 wpm, preferably 40 wpm with high degree of accuracy. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to multi-task in an efficient, thorough, and prioritized manner; to work quickly, accurately and independently; and, to anticipate needs and solve problems. Work with spirit of enthusiasm, teamwork, cooperation and a sense of urgency, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality over all matters in the course of business operations including patient and employee information.
